| Google can now detect malware and malicious code from your site Posted: 12 Oct 2009 10:30 PM PDT Sometimes, malicious code and malware code sneak into webpages, and webmassters only know when its too late, like a ban on Google index and the like. Altough these are rare occurances, which result mainly due to insecure servers and badly scripted pages, it was never easy to detect them. Google has taken a new step that will make malware/malicious code detection on webpages easier. If you use Google Webmaters tool, the new “Fetch as Google” tool available under the “Labs” tab will help you find malicious code in the URL you suggest. Its easy to use and effective. So, it would make sense to check it once a while..can’t trust all the plugins and scripts you use right ? More details on Google Malware detection here. Related posts:

| SEO Tips Day 1 – Content is King, But Package it well Posted: 12 Oct 2009 08:43 AM PDT " Content is King " I don't know who said this term first. But we've often heard this phrase repeat, time and again, over and over. Its sort of a cliche now. And how meaningful is it ? Let's see. Content sure is king. Its everything on a website. I guess the reason why whoever said this, said this is because at those times, you could see people building site just to take advantage of SEO and the AdSense money. You could pull it off with a few meta tag tweaks and some H1 tag addition. But not any more. You know it doesn't work – that's the old school stuff. Today, things have changed a lot. People know what a made-for-Adsense website is. People know if a website had quality content or not. Fooling them with SEO is not-gonna-happen ! So content is king of course, but what matters most is how well you package it and how well you give value to your readers. If content was king, Wikipedia would rule the SERPs. In fact, they do, not just because they have good content, but they've packaged it well, structured it well. And to package your content, you need to take help of SEO and Social Media. They are two great channels. Learn more about it in the next tip – coming tomorrow Your thoughts please. Related posts:

| Is large number of external links on a webpage bad SEO ? Posted: 12 Oct 2009 07:51 AM PDT Many people ask this Q, how many links are allowed on a page, maximum. And is there a limit at all to the number of external links allowed on a page ? Interesting question. Interesting because, though Google have clarified it many times that their engines have improved over time, some popular sites seem to restrict the number of external links on single pages. If its okay to add as many links as possible, why restrict ? Google suggest that ideally, its alright to add as many links as you want on a page, as their bots can handle more file size and more number of links than ever before. (Earlier this was limited). So adding many external links is fine. But..think about what will happen to your website if there were an unnatural amount of links on any single page ? - The page size would increase, and even though Google would crawl them and figure out what the context is, would they harm your user experience ? - If your website is built for visitors, is there a necessity to display large number of external links on a page, unless its a directory or something. So even if your site had hundreds of links on a page, and assuming Google crawls it all, your users might not like it, unless the site is meant for it (like directories). They may find the page load time and lack of organization annoying. So in my opinion it makes sense to limiting the number of external links on a single page to a minimal level, a number that makes sense, is in context with the content, and is organized. Pumping in external links anywhere on the site – not good. Even if Google is okay with it. Hope its clear. Related posts:
