| SEO Tips Day 4 – Make an attractive page title for better click through rate Posted: 15 Oct 2009 01:27 AM PDT What's more important on a page title ? Of course, adding relevant information, adding your keywords, its all good. But what's really important is whether your site will invite click throughs to your site. Let's take an example. Here's a normal page title – Ex 1 – "The Dentist's Blog – Project No.14, Smile Therapy, New York, Clinic" And here's a SEO's version of it (obviously, gone a little too far with it) Ex 2 – "Smile Therapy New York, Dentist New York, New York Dentists, Smile Therapy Dentist New York" So, what's wrong with either of the title's above ? The first example is not at all optimized. The page is a project report on smile therapy by a Dentist, but the page title has lot of irrelevant information. The second example is too much SEO'd that it just makes no sense. So, what's an ideal page title ? 1 – One that had elements of SEO in it. 2 – One that makes people to click through from the search result pages, beating your competition (on the same page.) Reason : When you get more clicks through Google for a relevant term, on repeated clicks from around, Google would be able to find out which is a relevant page. Ex 3 – "The best Smile Therapy Dentist in New York, you can find" Ex: – Someone searched for "New York Dentist" and found the Ex 2 on first result, The ideal title on the 2nd result and Ex 2 on the third result. He makes out that the 2nd result (Ex-3) makes more sense and is relevant to his search, so clicks on it. And so does the thousand people who searched for the same around the world, they all click on Ex 3, even though Ex 2, is the top result. And as a result, over time, Google through its referral tracking can easily find out that Ex 3, is a more "popular and relevant" result, so why not make it appear as the first result. Guess that explains it, write more relevant and attractive page titles (and meta description), so that people like, click and interact with it. Related posts:
